College At Last!
College At Last!
Here we are, a weeklong slumber party with my two daughters and me! We've traveled, my oldest daughter from California and the two of us from Washington state, to "drop off" the youngest (#3) in New York City for her first year of college. Because of my challenges handling the physical demands of a move across country, my oldest daughter (#1) joined us on our journey. It's wonderful to have her here on so many levels. #1 has been sad for a long time because she lives so far from home for college and has missed many of her little sister's important events and milestones. The two are seven years apart so #1 was already at college the first time #3 drove a car; she missed all of the school dances, the dramas of life when you want to go to your sister's room and cry on her shoulder, the plays and voice recitals, the college acceptance letters. In an odd way, #1 has been going through an "empty nest" of her own with her little sister, and it has been hard for her. So to accompany #3 along on this monumental rite of passage is maybe making up a bit for some of those lost opportunities. And they are so cute together! Of course, I'm the mom, and I would think so, wouldn't I?
